☼ Emmett Erkins

"His gaze shifts back to the stream again, watching the watery reflection of himself in the stream now, but he can barely make out anything past the distortion. He manages to glimpse his light brown hair, looking like even more of a tousled mess in the water, though maybe that’s just him. The easiest thing for him to spot are his eyes, hazel, just like his mother’s. He and his mother were the only one’s in his family with hazel eyes, and as he continues to look down into the reflection again, he sees her intertwining in the ripples." -- Chapter One

Backstory

Born in London, England, Emmett grew up alongside his mother and father; soon with the addition of his younger sister, Eloise. The Erkins lived comfortably together until Emmett's thirteenth birthday where everything went wrong.After a long and resented road-trip, six years later, in a cramped bungalow hidden in an alcove of trees that surround it in the shape of a semicircle; built for a family of four, but only occupied by three, he, his six year-old sister, and his father now share it with another on the outskirts of Tidal Coast.

Light manipulation & Healing

They can control the human healing factor, meaning that they can take the pain away from their peers and take it on instead as they are touching them. If a third party is also in contact with them, the pain can be transferred to them too.Emmett can create, shape and manipulate visible light of beneficial nature; that which strengthens, enhances and causes anything/everything it comes across to flourish, representing the sustaining and preserving side of light.

Relationships

Although a friendly face to most, Emmett had considered himself a floater in groups, where he'd never felt that click with anyone in particular before -- this was of course until he stepped onto the new Hero Campus, Lumen College, where he met his forever friends: Joah Agnelli, Taio Chen and Nat Torres.

"Emmett hadn’t spoken to anyone in this group before, the term having only just started last week; someone did catch his eye though, through her witty remarks and complaints in their project so far — Emmett dared himself to find out more." -- Chapter One

Sydney Cordelia and Emmett Erkins meet through a class project where their group is sent to search for various rocks in an unkempt forest. A friendship eventually blossoms, the pair go through hardships together, battle shrouded feelings and uncover the secrets that haunt their pasts.

"Viera Ebony has done her time in the dark, swept under her ancestors shadows—she now looks to the stars, wondering when it will be her turn to burst vast and outshine them like the sun instead of being left to lull. Then suddenly, soon after their move, the stars answer. Spellwork

Viera has the power to invent her own spells, just by visualising what she wants the spell to do, and by making their own incantation. Whether they were trained, self-taught or devised the spell on the fly. The spells can be minor, such as locating, summoning animals, divination or controlling emotions. Or they can be more advanced and powerful such as controlling the elements, pure magical energy, necromancy, curses and summoning monsters or magical guardians. Spells cannot be overly powerful or controlling. The more complex and powerful the spell, the more energy it drains from them.

Relationships

Constantly reprimanded to be the best, Viera holds a strained relationship with her parents; they ask for a legacy while she's only dreamed for a real family.Roy Ebony, her younger brother, whom she loved dearly -- both were inseparable when they were younger! Though, this of course changed once Viera turned eighteen, quickly placed in the familial spotlight, leaving Roy to dissolve in her shadow, along with their bond that was now irrevocable to go back to the way it was.

“Joah, however, does not let on. “To be honest, I don’t like the idea of forming an alliance with these people for the same reason I don’t like anthropomorphising ghosts. I can presume or try to anticipate whatever a ghost is feeling, but I won’t ever truly understand them—no one can, really, not even me. In the same way, uncertainty in humans leads to mistrust. And right now, I don’t trust them.”” — Chapter ?

Backstory

Growing up in a privileged family, Joah had what most people dreamed of. However, he didn’t believe that, having his father leave them when he was ten and his mother too unstable to look after him on her own, Joah was handed over to his grandparents where he was more or less left to himself in a haunted house.

Powers

Spirit Medium

Joah is a spirit medium, an individual that can perceive, communicate or otherwise interact with the souls/spirits of others. They can banish these entities from an area or summon souls/spirits that will defend them if they were ever to come to harm. They may even have their own soul or spirit enter the different worlds within the afterlife, while having their body within the living world entering in a sort of trance-like state. That allows them to return to their body when they're finished with their affairs within the afterlife.

Relationships

Anxious and closed off due to being isolated in an empty house as a child, Joah struggled to make friends throughout his school years until during the Summer before starting his first year at Lumen College. He met Nat Torres, a boisterous and energetic boy that allowed him to break out of his shell; soon becoming quick friends.Joah and Nat entered College together, the pair befriending introverted Taio Chen after being placed in the same dorm housing—though it did take a bit of persuasion.Halfway through their first term, Joah dragged the trio to a study club — much to Nat’s protesting on more knowledge being drilled into his brain and Taio’s knack for avoiding every possible social event — where they met a weirdly optimistic Emmett Erkins that was probably too nice for his own good.
